Assam’s Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has made the SAMARTH Lateral Entry Portal mandatory for student migration connected to the NEP 2020 and for lateral entry processes. The Directorate’s order requires that all such transfers be completed through the online portal, starting immediately. It applies to students transferring within the system and to lateral entry admissions in state universities and colleges. The DHE also directs institutions to stop using offline or manual migration methods for these transfers. Any migration not processed through the SAMARTH portal is not recognized, the Directorate says, for academic or administrative purposes. The move is framed as a way to implement NEP 2020 provisions through a single system and to support transparency in how migrations are recorded and processed. Institutions in Assam are expected to follow the new requirement as they manage NEP 2020-related transfers and lateral entry.
