The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejects claims that it provided nomination portal access codes to a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Gombe. INEC says it recognises only the ADC National Executive Committee led by Senator David Mark, adding that the Mark-led leadership is shown on the commission’s portal as chairman and that Rauf Aregbesola is secretary. INEC also dismisses allegations that it is interfering in opposition politics ahead of future elections, describing the dispute as an internal party matter.
Atiku Abubakar’s media office had alleged that INEC granted Gombe access despite recognising the Mark-led leadership, arguing that Gombe’s claim of uploading candidates’ names would not be possible without an access code. The ADC’s publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, counters that the claim is false, saying INEC issues portal access only to recognised leadership and does not provide separate codes to unrecognised groups. Abdullahi also calls for INEC to investigate alleged forgery or unauthorised use of documents purportedly from the commission.
In a related development, the ADC urges investigation and prosecution connected to the circulated portal-access claim after INEC’s clarification, amid an ongoing leadership tussle within the party.
