Hong Kong’s Star Ferry has applied to the government to increase fares by about 30% on its two franchised cross-harbour routes. The request, submitted to the Transport and Logistics Bureau and covered in a government paper for a Legislative Council transport panel meeting, seeks rises of roughly HK$0.80 to HK$2 per journey, depending on the fare type and route. The company says it is responding to higher operating costs, though the application details how the adjusted pricing would apply to adult weekday journeys and other regulated categories.

Alongside the fare proposal, Star Ferry is also outlining plans for a pet-friendly service. Under the proposal, the ferry would offer an additional service designed to allow passengers to travel with pets on the route between Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui. The submissions describe the pet-friendly option as part of the operator’s efforts to attract riders and improve service offerings.

The government paper is set to be discussed at the scheduled legislative panel meeting, where lawmakers are expected to consider the fare adjustment request and the service proposal.
