Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde calls on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to independently investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers from communities in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state. Makinde makes the request after rescued pupils and teachers are brought to his office in Ibadan. He says the circumstances of the incident and its resolution are “grave and unusual” and should be examined beyond domestic institutions to establish facts and accountability.

Sources state the abduction happened in May, with references including May 14 or May 15, involving children and teachers from communities such as Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota and Oriire LGA (and related reporting referring to Ogbomoso/Orire). Makinde also says responsibility for national security lies with federal security agencies under the constitution. He urges full and transparent disclosure of who was responsible, whether there were failures or negligence, and what steps are being taken to prevent a repeat.

Other reporting included that the president later announces the victims have regained freedom after a security operation involving the Nigerian Army, police, and intelligence support from the DSS, with arrests made.
