The Union government tells the Supreme Court that it intends to introduce comprehensive sex education in schools and colleges across India. According to multiple reports, the Centre submits that a committee report recommending the curriculum change has been accepted and will be implemented nationwide, pending court approval. The government also says the new programme will be taught by expert teachers.

One outlet reports that the curriculum is designed to address concerns linked to adolescent pregnancy and the misuse of law relating to child sexual offences, including issues under the POCSO Act. The planned approach includes integrating topics related to child sexual abuse and safety from the foundational stages, rather than treating them as standalone subjects later in schooling. Another report states that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is expected to develop the curriculum.

While the government presents the proposal as ready for implementation, the reports indicate that formal rollout depends on the Supreme Court’s consideration and approval.
