Mumbai Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurates the BMC-led beautification and lighting redevelopment of the Kala Ghoda Art Avenue in South Mumbai. The project is located in the Kala Ghoda precinct, a historical and cultural heritage area known for institutions such as museums and art galleries and for hosting the annual Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. Fadnavis describes the redevelopment as a “new artistic district” that improves public spaces and supports a heritage walk experience while preserving the area’s historic architectural character.

The initiative covers five heritage streets/roads—Saibaba Marg, Rope Walk Lane, Dr V. B. Gandhi Marg (Forbes Street), Rutherford Street and B. Bharucha Marg. It includes the development of Kala Ghoda Plaza at the B. Bharucha Marg junction and uses grey and black granite and basalt paving, along with pedestrian-friendly walkways. The redesign also features public seating and outdoor café-style spaces, and street art installations.

According to reports, the precinct restricts vehicle movement on weekends: heavy vehicles are banned from entering the area, and the roads are closed to vehicular traffic every Saturday and Sunday from 6 pm to midnight (6 pm to 12 am). Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, municipal officials and other representatives attend the event.
