The Delhi High Court is set to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) related to activist Sonam Wangchuk’s deteriorating health while on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. According to reports, Wangchuk has been fasting for more than 25 days, and the petition argues that his condition is critical and that the government has a duty to ensure the health and safety of citizens.
The court has treated the matter as urgent and has issued notices to relevant government authorities, seeking their response. One report says an initial listing was delayed due to a lawyers’ boycott, which prevented government counsel from appearing.
The PIL requests immediate medical assistance, including steps aimed at hospitalization. It also seeks government engagement through dialogue with the protesting activist. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, when the court will consider the petition and the authorities’ submissions.
