The Mumbai City District Collector has suspended the liquor licence of Ghetto Pub, a nightlife venue on Bhulabhai Desai Road (Warden Road), for 15 days. The action follows complaints from nearby residents about late-night noise, traffic obstruction and hygiene-related concerns around the establishment. In the Collector’s order issued last week, District Collector Anchal Goyal cites repeated regulatory violations and unauthorised structural alterations at the premises, alongside concerns about public nuisance.
The suspension follows surprise inspections by the State Excise Department and its flying squad on multiple dates in May and June 2026. During these inspections, authorities report that patrons gathered outside the pub late into the night, smoking and chatting, which they say obstructed the main road and affected commuters. The inspections also note that taxis waited roadside for pickups, contributing to congestion.
A physical audit reportedly finds a discrepancy between liquor stock available on the premises and the balance recorded in the statutory register. The licence holder is described as admitting lapses and accepting responsibility, while seeking a lenient settlement; that request was rejected. The order emphasises that only the District Collector can approve internal structural changes within licensed premises. The pub’s representative says it has filed an appeal, and the matter is sub judice.
