Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, calls for an autopsy after the death of his personal physiotherapist, Mary Habila, who dies in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Multiple outlets report that Habila’s death is confirmed in a statement by Francis Nweze, Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant. Umahi says Habila and another physiotherapist, Miss Anita Baski, are employees of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUS), Uburu, and have been on secondment to the Federal Ministry of Works for about three years. According to the reports, Umahi recommends a medical autopsy to establish the exact cause of death. One account says Habila’s family declines the autopsy recommendation, doing so amid controversy. The reports also note that allegations circulate online and in public discourse, including claims that Habila died naked at Umahi’s residence. As of the time of reporting, police have not issued an official comment on the incident. Umahi is also said to have met with Habila’s parents, conveyed condolences, and urged that the cause of death be scientifically established.
