Terrorists attack Miryan Police Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district and trigger a prolonged exchange of fire with security personnel, police say. Bannu District Police Officer Captain (retired) Muhammad Furqan Bilal confirms the attack. The attackers attempt to ram a vehicle loaded with explosives into the station, causing a blast that is reportedly heard from a distance and damages the police station building and nearby residences. After the blast, police say a heavy gun battle continues for a considerable time as attackers try to storm the facility. Additional police contingents arrive, and security in the area is tightened; members of the Police Peace Committee also reach the scene, while local residents assist rescue efforts.
Casualty reports vary across updates: earlier reports cite four or five injured, including a police official, while a later statement says one police official, Noor Jamal Khan, dies of injuries, and that six security personnel and four civilians remain under treatment. Police also say the attackers were attempting to hinder reinforcement and rescue operations by blowing up a previously damaged bridge on the route to the station. The incident occurs amid repeated militant violence in Bannu, following a prior suicide car bombing on the Domel Police Station earlier this year.
