Police in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, say a group of kanwariyas allegedly vandalised a pickup vehicle after it reportedly “brushed” or made contact with a kanwar during the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway route. The incident is reported to have occurred near Khadar Chowk in Purkazi town on Wednesday night, involving kanwariyas returning from Haridwar with holy water in kanwars. Station House Officer (SHO) Manvendra Singh Bhati said the pickup vehicle allegedly came in close contact with one of the kanwars, which sparked anger among the pilgrims. According to the reports, the situation turned violent when the pilgrims allegedly vandalised the vehicle, prompting police to rush to the spot and restore order. The commotion briefly affected traffic on the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway, before movement was later restored. Police seized the pickup vehicle and launched an investigation. After the incident and police intervention, the kanwariyas reportedly resumed their yatra.
