Nigeria’s Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) plans to introduce V-Pass, a facial recognition system, to replace physical identity checks at domestic airports. Multiple reports say the system uses biometric verification, allowing passengers to confirm their identities through facial recognition rather than relying primarily on physical identification documents at airport checkpoints.

The rollout is described as part of broader changes to how passengers move through security and departure processes. Premium Times reports that V-Pass involves a dual-verification approach intended to reduce impersonation, unauthorised access, and identity fraud. It also says the change is meant to strengthen authentication for security agencies.

Vanguard similarly reports that FAAN will reduce dependence on physical ID cards and improve movement through checkpoints by verifying identities electronically. The Punch also frames the shift as eliminating the use of physical IDs in domestic airports and enhancing both security and passenger experience.

All accounts describe V-Pass as a biometric identity tool for domestic air travel, aimed at improving security while streamlining passenger verification.
