A new independent TV series titled “Odysseus” is being prepared, separate from Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation “The Odyssey,” which is generating attention as it heads to theaters. Deadline reports that the series is produced by Tanweer, the Greek outfit associated with distributing Nolan’s movie, with production based in Athens. GameSpot adds that the project is led by Karl Gajdusek, known for “Stranger Things,” who serves as showrunner. Roel Reiné, who directed episodes of the “Halo” TV series, is set to direct. The pilot is written by Sean Finegan, Scott Windhauser, Noah Lang, and Blake Hoss.

The series is described as “visceral and muscular,” incorporating elements of Homer’s epic, including blood, ships, and betrayal. Its concept emphasizes historical grounding and the period leading up to the Bronze Age collapse, framed as a backdrop for the story’s transformation into legend.

Filming is planned to begin in early 2027 in Greece and Armenia. An expanded series universe is mentioned, but details on release timing, distribution, and cast have not been announced. A previous TV show with the same name ran for one season in 2013, and the new series is not connected to that earlier project.
