The Federal Government renames the 750-kilometre Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway as the “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway,” the works ministry says. Minister of Works David Umahi announces the change in a briefing, saying the ministry decides to name the full stretch in recognition of Tinubu’s role in conceiving the project. Umahi says Tinubu envisioned the highway about 27 years ago and links the initiative to his time as governor of Lagos State. He says the decision is made by the minister, in consultation with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, directors and staff. One outlet reports the project is estimated to cost about N15 trillion upon completion. Coverage also notes that work on the highway, which started in March 2024, has been controversial since its commencement, while at least part of the road is described as near completion. The reports present the renaming as an official government decision tied to Tinubu’s stated earlier vision for the highway.
