The All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) urges the Government of India to take up the case of Indian Shia Muslims reportedly detained in Gulf countries and secure their safe release and return. AISPLB general secretary Maulana Yasoob Abbas says the board has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting immediate diplomatic intervention with the governments of the countries concerned. He describes the matter as humanitarian and calls on India to ensure detained citizens receive legal assistance and fair treatment.

According to the AISPLB, several Indian Shia Muslims are reportedly held in countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, and may have been detained due to their religious beliefs. Abbas also says many of them had travelled for employment and to earn a livelihood.

The board asks the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies to raise the issue with local authorities, pursue diplomatic discussions and help facilitate early repatriation. AISPLB also released a list of 11 Indian nationals it says are being held in locations including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, and urges the Centre to treat the case with priority.
