The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) launches the E-Commerce Council of India (ECCI) to bring together stakeholders across the country’s digital commerce sector. The initiative is aimed at strengthening and coordinating India’s digital commerce ecosystem, which is described as a $120 billion market. According to the reported details, ECCI will include participants spanning policymakers; e-commerce marketplaces; brands and retailers; logistics providers; technology companies; payment solution providers; startups; exporters; micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs); industry experts; and academic institutions. The council is also presented as a platform to unify industry perspectives and support collaboration across the value chain. Multiple outlets report that major companies expected to be part of the council include Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Indiamart, MakeMyTrip, Uber, and eBay. Overall, the announcement positions ECCI as an industry body intended to help align diverse participants involved in online commerce operations, services, and enabling infrastructure in India.
