Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony hands over a new transportation fleet to support medical services in Guyana’s hinterland regions, according to multiple reports. The Ministry provides about 13 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), four utility vehicles (XUVs), and seven motorcycles to Regions One, Seven, Eight and Nine. The handover is described as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in remote communities by improving mobility for health centres and hospitals.
The vehicles are intended to help medical teams conduct outreach services across hard-to-reach areas. One report also notes that the fleet is meant to support telemedicine activities and emergency response, in addition to general access to healthcare. Across the coverage, the common focus is on better transportation capacity for regional health institutions, enabling staff to travel to communities and carry out service delivery where infrastructure and access can be limited.
The Ministry frames the initiative as an ongoing programme to improve healthcare access for hinterland residents through additional resources and logistics support.
