The Supreme Court has approved a plan to create an “India’s first” night safari at Lucknow’s Kukrail Reserve Forest, with construction set to proceed. The project is described as the first in India and among the largest globally, covering nearly 500 acres. It is designed to highlight nocturnal and twilight-active wildlife and will include multiple animal enclosures, with plans cited for 42 enclosures housing 54 species.

Visitors are expected to experience the safari through a guided tram ride lasting about 40 minutes, using simulated moonlight or low-light conditions. The proposal also includes facilities beyond the wildlife circuit, such as a modern zoo and nature trails.

One account says the safari is modeled on Singapore’s approach to night wildlife viewing, and another notes that the site is planned to be powered by solar energy. Sources also project an opening timeline of about two years after clearance, framed as an initiative to support tourism in Uttar Pradesh alongside wildlife conservation efforts.
