The Nigerian Presidency says it sees a “palpable” pattern in claims by Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, that he faces threats to his life. In a post on X, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, accuses Obi of using such allegations as part of a wider political strategy involving Obi’s supporters, the “Obideient Movement,” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bwala’s remarks respond to Obi’s recent statements made in Berlin, Germany, where Obi said there was an attempt on his life connected to a planned trip to Benue State in April 2025. The Presidency’s spokesman dismisses those claims and argues that Obi has previously made similar allegations.

Bwala also points to a separate controversy involving Obi’s claims of intimidation at Nigerian airports. The Presidency says Obi wrongly accused airport authorities after allegedly violating airport traffic regulations, and argues that the life-threat narrative could be intended to mobilise supporters against political opponents.

The sources present the allegations as the Presidency’s position, without providing independent confirmation of the underlying claims by either side.
