Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed calls on Nigeria’s education authorities to integrate Arabic education into the school curriculum. Speaking during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Bauchi, the governor tells the Federal Government that graduates who obtained qualifications from Arabic-speaking countries should receive equal recognition and opportunities in Nigeria. The request is made as he receives a delegation of Nigerian students studying in Saudi Arabian universities and Saudi business figures, led by Dr. Shuaibu Abubakar Idris of the Centre for Sunnah Studies in Africa.
Mohammed links the proposal to Nigeria’s cultural and religious ties with the Arab world, saying Northern Nigeria’s Arabic educational heritage has been neglected. He points to a past Arabic College in Alkaleri, saying it thrived before being abandoned by previous administrations. He urges a revival of similar institutions to expand learning and future opportunities.
Representatives of the students thank the governor for his support and say they will use their knowledge gained abroad to contribute to Bauchi State and Nigeria upon their return. The visit is also described as introducing Saudi investors to Bauchi’s development plans and briefing the governor on the Centre’s work.
