IIT Madras announces the GATE 2027 examination schedule and several updates to the test format. The computer-based exam will be conducted over six days in February 2027: February 6–7, 13–14, and 20–21. Each day the test runs in two sessions, morning and afternoon. IIT Madras also updates the syllabus for the various papers after five years. A new test paper on Robotics and Automation (RA) is introduced from GATE 2027, bringing the total number of papers to 30. The Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper is restructured and converted into a sectional paper under Engineering Sciences (XE). The exam continues in CBT mode, and question papers are available only in English. Candidates can apply for one or two papers, based on approved paper combinations. IIT Madras says registration is expected to begin in mid-August 2026, including DigiLocker-based registration and facial authentication for verification. GATE scores remain valid for three years from the date results are declared and are used for postgraduate admissions and recruitment by various organizations.
