Multiple outlets report that YouTube picture-in-picture (PiP) is failing for some users on both Android and iOS. Instead of showing the floating video window after PiP is activated, the overlay does not appear. Reports indicate that when users exit the YouTube app, audio may continue playing in the background, but the video portion does not remain in the PiP window.
Google acknowledges the problem, according to a statement shared in a YouTube Help forum post. The company says its teams are “actively investigating the issue,” implying that the bug is known and under review.
While the problem appears to affect both operating systems, sources also note it may not impact every user, suggesting the issue could be limited to certain account configurations, app versions, or device conditions. At the time of reporting, Google has not provided a timeline for a fix or a workaround, but the acknowledgement confirms the company is aware of user complaints and is investigating the cause of the PiP failure.
