In demonstrations and testing described by Gamers Nexus and repeated by other publications, a Windows 11 system receiving an LG UltraGear monitor performs an automatic update sequence that installs LG driver-related packages and the “LG Monitor App Installer.” The installer then runs at startup and displays promotional pop-ups, including McAfee trial advertisements. According to the reports, users do not receive a permission dialog or notification prior to installation.
Gamers Nexus is said to have reproduced the behavior across many consecutive reboots—showing McAfee promotions during most restarts—with occasional promotions featuring LG’s own utilities. The behavior is described as not restricted to newly purchased monitors; it has reportedly appeared on an older LG UltraFine model as well. Additional user complaints have reportedly existed since at least 2024, with a recent increase in reports suggesting more LG models and configurations may be affected.
