Primate Labs releases Geekbench 7, an updated version of its cross-platform benchmarking suite for measuring CPU and GPU performance across macOS, iOS, Android, Windows, and Linux. The update redesigns how multi-core performance is tested, changing the methodology to better match how applications behave in real-world use—specifically by running tasks in multi-threaded mode only when the modeled workload is multi-threaded in actual applications. Primate Labs also expands CPU test workloads with larger, more challenging datasets and more varied media and developer-oriented tasks, aiming to reflect modern software behavior.
For GPUs, Geekbench 7 introduces a revamped benchmark with workloads focused on contemporary GPU usage, including machine learning and content creation. The GPU tests include graphics and video processing scenarios such as real-time filtering and image upscaling, along with additional image editing and synthesis workloads like RAW processing, LUT-based color grading, path tracing, and fluid simulation. Media-focused additions include audio and video encoding/decoding, speech recognition, and video-conferencing-style workloads, plus a game-physics test. Geekbench 7 remains free for personal use, while a Pro option is also available, with a limited-time discount noted by some outlets.
