Delhi Police on Tuesday dismisses social media claims that a ban has been imposed on app-based food delivery in New Delhi district. The clarification follows an initial police advisory intended to “regulate” movement of app-based mobility, ride-hailing, food delivery, logistics and e-commerce platforms around protest sites. According to the police, the measure is not a ban. Instead, the Delhi Traffic Police issues a travel advisory telling motorists and platform operators to avoid routes leading to the notified area because of large gatherings and prevailing law-and-order concerns. Police say the advisory aims to manage traffic and public movement in the vicinity of protests, not to restrict food delivery services outright. They describe the online reports as “rumours” and reiterate that there is no prohibition on food delivery through apps. The police statement directs attention to official communications regarding route advisories and notified areas during the period of demonstrations.
