Suspected bandits abduct the chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Bungudu, following an attack on his residence. Both reports say the attackers storm Bungudu town late Thursday night and go directly to the chairman’s home in the Zango area, located less than 20 kilometres from Gusau, the state capital.

The sources agree that security personnel guarding the residence are overpowered during the raid. One report adds that the assault results in fatalities among guards, including two police officers and two vigilantes. Witness accounts cited in one report indicate the abduction begins with the chairman along with his wife and children, with later efforts by security forces enabling the rescue of several children as the bandits withdraw.

Residents say reinforcement teams arrive after the attackers have fled, and they attribute recurring violence in the area to the bandits’ access to sophisticated weapons and possible informant support. Community members call on government and security agencies to strengthen protection across Bungudu and other vulnerable areas of Zamfara State.
