A magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurs off the coast of Baganga, Davao Oriental on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reports. PHIVOLCS says the quake is recorded at 7:06 a.m., with its epicenter located about 33 kilometers south and east of Baganga (reported coordinates: 7.52°N, 126.86°E). The earthquake is described as tectonic in origin and has a depth of about 20 kilometers.
One outlet also reports that a separate magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurs in the same area early Tuesday. That second quake is reported to be located about 15 kilometers southeast of the same location and hits in the same general time period.
Regarding reported effects, PHIVOLCS data cited by one outlet indicates the tremor is felt at Intensity IV in Digos City, Davao del Sur. Instrumental intensity I is also recorded in several areas, including Davao City and parts of Davao de Oro, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and San Fernando.
