Abia State Governor Alex Otti has filed a ₦5 billion defamation (libel) lawsuit against Uche Aguoru, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State. The case is filed at the High Court of Abia State, Umuahia Judicial Division under suit number HU/126/2026. Sources say the suit follows allegations attributed to Aguoru in a series of social media posts, which Otti says are false and damaging to his reputation.
The court filings, as reported, state that Aguoru allegedly accused Otti of corruption, diversion of public funds, abuse of office, political inducement, interference in the affairs of another political party, and judicial intimidation. Otti is asking the court to declare the publications unlawful, order a retraction and an unreserved apology, and restrain Aguoru from making further similar publications. He is also seeking ₦5 billion in damages and the cost of the suit.
A senior advocate, Kenneth Ahia (SAN), is reported as representing Otti. Aguoru confirmed he has been served with the court papers and said his legal team has responded, characterizing the action as an attempt to silence opposing voices ahead of upcoming elections.
