The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says the Bola Tinubu administration will be held responsible if anything happens to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai while he remains in state custody. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, makes the warning in an interview on Symfoni TV.

Abdullahi argues that El-Rufai’s detention is not primarily about law, justice, or a proven criminal offence. He says that if El-Rufai were being held over a specific crime, the matter should be determined by the courts, with courts deciding guilt or innocence. The ADC also criticizes what it describes as prolonged detention, suggesting it serves political purposes rather than legal process.

Abdullahi further alleges that the detention is intended to prevent El-Rufai from participating in an upcoming election and from strengthening the opposition. He also states that El-Rufai previously supported Tinubu in the context of Buhari’s cabinet.
