Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni says Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi must receive maximum protection, adding that “nothing must happen” to him. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Oseni pointed to past unresolved political deaths, including those of Bola Ige and Funsho Williams, as examples of why political leaders’ safety should not be treated lightly. He warned against any repetition of incidents described as “mysterious accidents” or unexplained events and said Obi should remain alive, safe, and able to participate in the next election.
Oseni’s remarks follow an Abuja Federal High Court decision allowing a case to proceed that seeks to compel President Bola Tinubu to provide maximum security for Obi. According to reports cited by the outlets, concerns about Obi’s safety have grown further after an alleged attack in Benin City, Edo State, in February 2026, in which Obi and ADC leader John Oyegun reportedly escaped harm when armed hoodlums fired at them and others connected to the Obidient Movement while they were travelling to Oyegun’s residence.
