Sam Amadi, director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, questions why Nigeria does not have official autopsy reports on the deaths of former military head of state Sani Abacha and former Attorney General of the Federation Bola Ige. Speaking to Arise Television, Amadi says the absence of verified medical documentation leaves space for speculation and fuels conflicting public narratives about how the two men died. He describes the lack of official closure as a “national tragedy” and argues that unresolved or unverified accounts undermine historical accountability.
The comments follow renewed debate involving different claims about Abacha’s death. Media reports cited assertions by former DSS director Dennis Amachree that Abacha died during intercourse with a female pharmacist. That account was later disputed by Abacha’s former chief security officer, Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha (rtd), who said he had CCTV footage related to the incident. Amadi’s position is that without an official, medically grounded autopsy, competing statements continue to circulate without a definitive basis, including in the case of Bola Ige, where he says proper narratives have not been established.
