WhatsApp is rolling out support for one-on-one and group voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web. Multiple outlets report that the feature is launching on the web starting today, enabling users to place and receive calls directly through their browser in the same contexts previously limited to mobile apps.
The rollout also includes additional call-related capabilities. Reported features include call transfer, which lets users move an ongoing call between devices. Outlets also cite enhancements related to call performance, including “QuickHD,” described as a way to improve or manage video quality.
In addition, WhatsApp is introducing other calling features tied to the web experience, including a waiting-room-style function for calls.
