Lionel Messi returns to training with his MLS club Inter Miami on Wednesday, about 10 days after Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final in New Jersey. Multiple outlets report that Messi steps onto Inter Miami’s training field alongside teammate Luis Suárez in a video posted by the club. The forward spent time with his family in Rosario, Argentina, following the World Cup. Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos, who has a long-standing relationship with Messi, said there was no fixed return date for Messi or for Argentina teammate Rodrigo De Paul during their post-tournament break, citing physical and mental exhaustion from the competition. Both Messi and De Paul were also allowed to miss the MLS All-Star Game in Charlotte due to the short turnaround after World Cup duties. While Messi has not clarified whether he will continue playing for Argentina, the timing of his next competitive appearance has not been announced. Inter Miami play Columbus Crew on Saturday before beginning their Leagues Cup campaign next Wednesday against San Luis.
