The UK Supreme Court grants permission for Huda Ammori, co-founder of the direct action group Palestine Action, to challenge the government’s decision to proscribe the group as a terrorist organisation. The ban is implemented in July 2025 under the UK’s Terrorism Act, making membership of or support for Palestine Action a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
Ammori has been seeking to overturn the Home Office’s decision following earlier court rulings. In June, the Court of Appeal overturns a High Court ruling that had found the ban unlawful. The Court of Appeal concludes that the government’s action “struck a fair balance” between individuals’ rights to freedom of expression and assembly and the interests of national security.
Following the Court of Appeal ruling, the Supreme Court agrees to hear the appeal, with the case expected in autumn. The reports also describe a wider enforcement campaign since the ban began, including thousands of arrests and terrorism-related court listings in London.
