The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) says it will subpoena and/or summon Batangas First District Rep. Leandro Leviste and former lawmaker Jing Paras following an affidavit from a detained talent manager. NBI director Melvin Matibag made the announcement, stating the case stems from allegations that the two lawmakers planned to frame Executive Secretary Ralph Recto in a purported “bugaw” or human trafficking-related modus operandi. Matibag said the subpoenas require their appearance and are set for this Friday regarding the issuance process, with Leviste and Paras expected to appear at the NBI on Wednesday or Thursday of next week. He also said the matter involves more than claims made through social media, adding that the parties are expected to clarify their positions directly to investigators. The NBI’s action is tied to the affidavit of the “nabbed” talent manager, which serves as the basis for the investigation and the filing of subpoenas against the lawmakers.
