Rivers State political tensions remain heated as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accuses four close associates of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deceiving him and worsening the crisis in the state. Speaking in Port Harcourt during a media chat, Wike identifies Edison Ehie, Chijioke Ihunwo, Victor Oko Jumbo and activist Ankio Briggs as key figures who, he says, repeatedly gave Fubara incorrect counsel. Wike also claims the individuals persuaded the governor to back away from agreements reached after a peace process brokered following the Rivers crisis. He frames Fubara as the “biggest loser,” saying he feels for the governor.
The allegations come against the backdrop of an ongoing feud between Wike and his successor, which has contributed to a prolonged political standoff in Rivers State. During the crisis, President Bola Tinubu imposed emergency rule, including suspending Fubara for six months. The reports also note that although Fubara defected to the All Progressives Congress, he did not secure a ticket for a second term, and he has since announced a return to Wike’s political camp.
