Broadcaster Rufai Oseni says Nigerians should question presidential candidates who do not disclose primary school information. He made the comments in a Facebook post on Sunday, reacting to the personal particulars and education documents that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) publishes for scrutiny as part of the 2027 presidential election process.
Oseni’s remarks follow INEC’s public display of details submitted by candidates, including academic credentials and other information contained in candidates’ affidavits. According to the reports, the documents show President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, lists only his Bachelor of Science degree from Chicago State University, with the primary and secondary school attendance years recorded as “0000.” The same disclosure also indicates that Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) include educational histories that start from primary school.
INEC states that the publication begins a statutory period during which members of the public may challenge alleged false information in a candidate’s affidavit in court, consistent with the Electoral Act.
