OpenAI is adding access to its Codex coding agent inside the ChatGPT mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Multiple outlets report that Codex continues to run on a user’s Mac (or other desktop environments), while the mobile app acts as a remote controller. After updating both the Codex Mac app and the ChatGPT mobile app, users pair the devices by scanning a QR code in the Codex interface.
Once connected, the mobile app loads the live state from the computer running Codex. Users can monitor active chats or projects, review outputs, approve or manage coding commands, and send new task requests from their phones. OpenAI also describes notifications for task completion and moments when Codex needs input. According to reports, sensitive elements such as files, credentials, and permissions remain on the machine where Codex runs, while the phone receives information like screenshots, terminal output, diffs, test results, and approval requests.
OpenAI cautions users to pair only devices they own and trust. Some coverage notes the rollout as part of a broader push to compete with similar “coding agent” tools and references earlier OpenAI additions such as a Codex Chrome extension.
