Educational institutions in parts of western Uttar Pradesh close for the Kanwar Yatra, with local administrations citing student safety and traffic management due to increased pilgrim movement. Reports say Ghaziabad schools, colleges and other educational institutions remain shut from August 4 to August 12. The closure order, issued through district education officials following directions from the district administration, applies broadly to schools across levels and also covers colleges and universities, with exemptions limited to examinations already scheduled prior to the order. NDTV and other outlets also report closures extend beyond Ghaziabad to Meerut, and Mint and Times of India include Baghpat in the list of districts affected. Times of India additionally notes operational measures along the Namo Bharat corridor, including temporary entry and exit restrictions at Namo Bharat stations, while services on the corridor continue as normal. Across the coverage, the Kanwar Yatra is described as an annual Shiva pilgrimage undertaken during Shravan, with devotees travelling through routes in these districts. Authorities therefore implement the shutdown alongside transport and security arrangements during the period leading up to Shravan Shivratri.
