Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi, both former correspondents for CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” are appointed journalists in residence at Columbia University’s School of Journalism. The role is set to cover the 2026–2027 academic term. In their positions, they will work directly with students through formats including lectures, workshops, and special events. Columbia Journalism Review will also receive contributions from both journalists as part of the appointment, according to reporting on the announcement.
The appointments follow changes at “60 Minutes” earlier in the year, when both Pelley and Alfonsi were removed from the program amid a shakeup described across the coverage. One outlet also frames their departure as connected to disagreements with CBS News executives. The new Columbia roles position them to share their reporting and editorial experience in an academic setting, while maintaining an ongoing public-facing outlet through writing for Columbia Journalism Review.
