In particular, the state says it can identify alleged personal benefits linked to the Bosasa whistleblower’s information at about R7 million. It also cites assets of about R26.7 million that it is seeking to recover or account for within the civil matter. Taken together, these figures form the basis for the reduced claim total of R53 million.
The reports focus on the scope of what the state can substantiate, rather than changes to the underlying allegations. They indicate that, despite the original claim amount, the state now pursues a smaller figure reflecting the evidence it says it can specifically quantify.
