Changi Airport is rolling out autonomous wheelchairs to help transfer passengers who have walking difficulties in Terminals 2 and 3. The airport plans to deploy up to 18 autonomous wheelchairs at these terminals to support passengers during transfers.

Channel NewsAsia reports that airlines at Changi Airport handle about 2,300 wheelchair assistance requests each day, and that four in five of these requests come from transfer passengers. The introduction of autonomous wheelchairs is intended to improve mobility support for this group within the terminals during the transfer process.

The Straits Times also notes the rollout is for transfer passengers with walking difficulties and that the number of autonomous wheelchairs available will be up to 18 across Terminals 2 and 3. The reports do not describe changes to other forms of wheelchair assistance, but the new devices are positioned as an additional option to support passengers who need help moving around the airport.
