PVR Inox launches PVR Inox SMART Cinemas, a new cinema exhibition format targeted at India’s tier-III cities. The company says the concept is designed to extend its “signature” cinema experience to smaller, fast-growing urban markets while using a capital-efficient expansion approach. SMART Cinemas is primarily rolled out under a Franchise-Owned, Company-Operated (FOCO) model, in which developers or entrepreneurs own the cinema property while PVR Inox manages operations.
According to the company, Muzaffarpur in Bihar will host the first SMART Cinemas location. PVR Inox describes Muzaffarpur as a fast-growing commercial and educational hub with rising demand for premium entertainment. The operator says it has already signed agreements for six additional SMART Cinemas properties, with deliveries expected over the next nine months, and that it is in discussions with developers in other growth markets.
The company states that each SMART Cinemas site will include 2K laser projection, 7.1 surround sound, modern auditoriums and curated food and beverage offerings, delivered through a “value-led” format for emerging urban centres. PVR Inox also links the initiative to broader growth in consumer demand driven by rising disposable incomes and expanding organized retail and infrastructure.
