Several reports say Apple has started a lottery for U.S. retail employees to help staff an upcoming in-person iPhone launch event. According to internal-memo accounts cited by outlets including Bloomberg, Apple invites store workers to apply for an “Event Support Experience Program.” The memo reportedly describes roles for selected employees, including helping manage attendee queues, checking in and greeting guests, providing directions, and supporting security teams.

The reports also indicate Apple plans to hold the event in the first half of September, though a specific date is not confirmed publicly. One source states the application window closes on August 8, with notifications to selected employees by August 17. AppleInsider adds that employees who participated in Apple events such as WWDC 2026 or the 2025 iPhone launch are not eligible, suggesting there are restrictions on who can apply.

While Apple has reportedly used retail staff for major product launches in the past, the lottery structure is described as a notable approach for the current event cycle. The reports do not indicate changes to public-facing plans beyond the timing and support staffing.
