Alongside the suspension at the base camp, officials stop fresh yatra departures from Jammu to the twin base camps at Pahalgam and Baltal, and also suspend return convoys to Jammu, again described as part of heightened security preparations. Reports also state that movement of security convoys on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway is suspended, a step commonly taken to reduce movement on the strategic route that connects Kashmir with the rest of India. The suspension comes as political parties in Jammu and other areas observe August 5 as a “Black Day” and hold protest programmes related to the 2019 Centre decision to revoke Article 370 and reorganise Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. The yatra began on July 3 and is scheduled to end on August 28, with officials continuing to review security arrangements and movement plans.
