A Federal High Court in Abuja orders the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all parties in an APC candidacy dispute to maintain the status quo pending determination of the substantive case. Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim issues the directive in response to an ex parte application filed by Adamu Aliyu. The dispute concerns the APC candidacy for the Jos North North Constituency seat in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
The court restrains Abdulkadir Hassan from presenting himself as the APC candidate or taking further steps related to the contested nomination until the substantive suit is resolved. The order prevents actions that would involve INEC recognising, publishing, or otherwise advancing Hassan’s nomination as the APC candidate while the case is pending.
In the ruling, the judge instructs all parties to preserve the “status quo ante bellum” until the final determination of the substantive suit. The case is filed under FHC/ABJ/CS/1618/2026. The court also sets August 24, 2026 for the hearing of the substantive matter.
