Kwara State Government announces that 176 people abducted during an attack on the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained freedom. The announcement is made on Wednesday in a statement posted on the government’s official Facebook page. Multiple outlets report that the abduction occurred on February 3, 2026, and that the victims spent about six months in captivity before their release.
Reports describe the attack as carried out by Boko Haram-linked extremists who storm the rural communities on motorcycles and carry out a coordinated assault lasting several hours. Nigerian Eye adds that the attack results in extensive damage, including destroyed homes and businesses, with residents displaced. That outlet also says more than 200 lives are lost and dozens are injured, while other sources focus on the release itself.
In its announcement, the Kwara State Government praises President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security forces, and other stakeholders for their roles in the rescue effort, using language of gratitude for securing the victims’ release.
