Western Union is rolling out a stablecoin-based remittance service called Stablecard in partnership with stablecoin infrastructure provider Rain. The offering combines a digital wallet with a Visa card, allowing users to receive, store, transfer, and spend the dollar-backed USDPT stablecoin. Under the program, remittance recipients receive funds into a stablecoin wallet and can then make purchases through Visa’s global merchant network.

The service is initially available in 37 markets, with Western Union planning to expand it to more than 60 countries during the year. The rollout targets cross-border payments and consumers in countries where people may seek US dollar-denominated value amid local economic volatility.

The companies describe Stablecard as a way to connect stablecoin transfers with mainstream payment rails, using Visa for day-to-day spending while stablecoin transfers handle the value transfer. The launch reflects a broader effort to integrate stablecoin functionality into international remittance flows, while using existing card networks for consumer payment access.
