Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, says Lagos has lacked a government that consistently puts residents first over the past two decades. In a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday, he framed the 2027 governorship election as a contest that should reflect “realities” rather than propaganda or false narratives.
Rhodes-Vivour argues that Lagos has the “potential, geography and human capacity” to become one of Africa’s leading cities, but that this potential has not been matched by effective governance. He lists areas where residents should see tangible improvements, including cleaner air, streets free of refuse, and roads that do not rapidly degrade into potholes during rainy seasons.
He also highlights expectations for emergency services that can save lives regardless of ability to pay, better schools for children’s present and future, and a transport system that respects commuters’ time. He concludes that government competence and service should take precedence over slogans, promising that the election should be judged by measurable results.
