Nigeria Police Force (NPF) leadership says it is prepared to support the creation of state police if the proposal is approved. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun makes the pledge during a one-day sensitisation workshop on state policing organised by the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS). He says the session is intended to equip officers with knowledge and capacity to engage constructively on state policing and to adjust to future reforms. Egbetokun also urges participants to share lessons from the workshop with colleagues across police commands to promote a consistent understanding of the proposed changes.
NIPS Director-General Professor Olu Ogunshakin commends the IGP for setting up a Police Steering Committee on State Police, saying some of the committee’s recommendations have been incorporated into the draft State Police Bill. He describes the inclusion of those recommendations as a milestone for Nigeria’s policing reform agenda.
